REGISTRATION GUIDE
When to Register
You will be assigned a registration time-ticket assignment for registration. Approximately one week before registration begins, you can find your registration time ticket assignment by accessing Registration Information and clicking the Check Registration Status and Appointments link in PAWS. Your time-ticket assignment is valid beginning at your assigned time and continues through the end of Late Registration.
Time-ticket assignments are assigned with priority to students scheduled to graduate for the upcoming registration term and then to continuing students according to the total credit hours earned. Once you are allowed access, you can adjust your schedule on a first-come, first-served basis during the remaining registration period. It is to your advantage to register as soon as you are allowed access to the registration system because many classes fill up quickly.
How to Register
Refer to the Semester Calendar & Exam Schedules for registration dates to Add, Drop, or Withdraw courses. A student may schedule as many as 18 semester hours without special permission unless otherwise restricted by Advisement. You can make changes to your schedule online in PAWS until the last day of Late Registration. Students who wait until Late Registration to register for classes will incur a fee of $50. A student may appeal to add a class after late registration has ended. If the appeal is approved, the student will be charged a $37.50 manual schedule adjustment fee in addition to tuition and fees. This fee is charged for each appeal approved. Appeals should be directed to the department that teaches the course. If a student decides not to attend the course once the appeal has been approved and added to the student’s schedule, the student must officially withdraw from the course on PAWS, prior to the semester midpoint. Students may not appeal to faculty to have a course dropped. If an administrative academic error has occurred, students should contact the academic department offering the course for a resolution.
Steps to Register:
- Log in to PAWS with your CampusID and password. You can look up or change your CampusID or password at http://campusid.gsu.edu.
- Scroll down to My Registration and select Add/Drop/Withdraw Courses.
- Select the appropriate registration term.
- If you have holds, you will be required to satisfy them before being able to register.
- Select Degree, Subject, Campus, Part of Term, and any other search parameters from the options on the Search page.
- Choose the course you would like to add and click "Add."
- Review your Summary and click "Submit".
- Select "Print Schedule and Options" tab to view and print your current registration schedule.
For a more detailed walk-thru of the registration process, view the Self-Service Student Registration Demo.
Overflows, Authorizations and Restrictions
Some courses require special authorization from a department or have registration restrictions or pre-requisites. Students will receive a registration error message that will alert them of the need to contact the department if authorization is required to take the course. The academic department must approve and enter the authorization in the registration system for students to successfully register and remain in the course. Students seeking assistance registering for courses in the College of Arts and Sciences on the downtown campus should go to https://casportal.gsu.edu/register.
Overflow policies vary with each department. Contact the specific department for authorization and overflow information.
Dropping a Class
Refer to the Semester Calendar & Exam Schedules for registration dates to Drop courses. You Drop a class when you remove it from your schedule. A dropped class does not appear on your transcript. Late Registration is the last time period for dropping a class. After the last day of Late Registration, only withdrawals are allowed. Students can Withdraw themselves up to the mid-point of the semester.
Remember, to be certified as a full-time student, you must carry a minimum of 12 semester hours.
A student who is enrolled in less than a full-time course of study at Georgia State may be in jeopardy of:
- Losing insurance coverage under his or her parent/guardian’s insurance policy
- Being out of compliance with the Department of Homeland Security if enrolled at Georgia State on a student visa
- Being placed on a loan payment schedule by a lender or guarantor if the student is the recipient of federal financial aid
- Losing a scholarship if the guidelines for receiving the scholarship require full-time student enrollment.
